4 DIY ideas with lightbulbs

This is how you turn old lightbulbs into real eye-catchers! With a saw and a little skill, broken lightbulbs can be wonderfully recycled. Today we will show you how to transform an empty lightbulb into a mini terrarium or how to make a pretty flower vase out of it. All 4 ideas are also ideal as gifts.

1. Mini terrarium

For this you need:

  • Lightbulb
  • Decorative wood
  • hot glue
  • small stones
  • sand
  • earth
  • moss
  • water
  • Decorative elements
  • Wooden pegs

That is how it goes:

1.1 Saw off the foot contact on the socket and completely remove the inside of the light bulb with a screwdriver.

1.2 Glue four small, round wooden panels together, as shown in the picture. Also glue the lightbulb to the wooden plate on top.

1.3 Now fill the lightbulb with stones, sand, earth and moss. Also put a few drops of water on the moss and soil (this is best done with a pipette).

1.4 Finally, you can distribute a few small decorative elements in the light bulb. Put a wooden plug in the socket and the mini terrarium is ready.

2. Hanging vase

For this you need:

  • thick wire
  • Lightbulb
  • funnel
  • water

That is how it goes:

2.1 Bend the wire as shown in the picture; form a large ring at the bottom and a small ring at the top. The small ring should be about the diameter of the light bulb socket.

2.2 Hang the empty lightbulb from below with the socket in the upper wire ring.

2.3 Fill the light bulb with water using a funnel. Now you can use the handicraft as a pretty vase.

3. Soap dispenser

For this you need:

  • Red light bulb
  • Soap and plunger rod of a soap dispenser

That is how it goes:

3.1 Saw off the foot contact of the light bulb and remove its inner workings with pliers.

3.2 Put liquid soap in the light bulb.

3.3 Turn the piston rod including the pusher into the socket of the light bulb. The soap dispenser is ready (ideally the thread of the piston rod fits exactly to the size of the socket).

4. Colorful fairy lights

For this you need:

  • LED fairy lights
  • colorful balloons

That is how it goes:

4.1 Cut off the mouthpiece of each of the balloons and put the balloons over the individual LED bulbs.

4.2 As soon as the light chain is switched on, it lights up colorfully.
