1. Hair on the brush
Hair is building up on your brush? You don’t necessarily think about it when it comes to taking care of plants, but hair is exactly the right remedy for your plants. They contain nitrogen which stimulates the growth of plants. So one or two tufts of hair from your brush, slightly buried in the potting soil, will give your plants that extra boost in their growth.

2. Repel parasites
When vermin spreads on a plant, then pesticides are the only alternative? False! Before you tackle these intruders with a chemical and sticky cocktail, you should try cedar wood which is very effective at repelling pests. Just sharpen a standard pencil and place the leftovers in the leaves of the plant.

3. Homemade fertilizer
In the workshop :
- Water
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 C. to s. sugar
- Beer
- Small plastic bottle
If your plant is looking tired, it’s time to fertilize it. But if you don’t have one on hand, you can easily make your own fertilizer. Just fill a small plastic bottle halfway with water, lemon juice, sugar, and beer, make a hole in the cap, and water your plants with it.

4. Repel midges
In the workshop :
- Spray bottle
- Dishwashing liquid
- Water
They are very small, fast and above all terribly annoying: midges. If these little bugs are also invading your house, just mix water with a little washing up liquid and sprinkle it on the affected plants, the soap will drive away the flies and you will have one less problem.

5. Homemade fertilizer ice cubes
In the workshop :
Yes, you read that correctly, the fertilizer is also available in the form of ice cubes. Just mix some water with some raw rice, then pour the cloudy water (without rice grains) into an ice cube tray and freeze. Then place the ice cubes on the ground; when they melt, the earth is supplied with starch.

6. Cook eggs
The next time you boil eggs, do not throw out the water in the pot. Instead, let it cool and water your plants; calcium keeps the soil healthy.

7. Water the plants during vacations
Did some of your plants survive your last vacation? There is a trick that will allow you to protect your plants from drought during your next absences: just fill a large container with water, place it in an elevated position and place a string going from the water to the soil, this will provide your plants with enough water for up to two weeks.
